Shopify 3PL and warehouse (WMS) integration

Stop emailing orders to the warehouse and reconciling stock by hand. We connect Shopify to your 3PL or WMS so orders, inventory, fulfilment and returns stay in sync automatically, and every message is watched for failures.

The manual work a disconnected warehouse creates

Without a clean integration, your store and your 3PL hold two versions of the truth, and your team spends the day reconciling them.

01

Orders sent by hand

Staff export a CSV or email each order to the warehouse before it can be picked.

02

Overselling

Stock drifts between Shopify and the warehouse, so you sell what isn't on the shelf.

03

Tracking stuck in the 3PL

Tracking numbers sit in the warehouse system while customers ask where their order is.

04

Returns in spreadsheets

RMAs and restocks are tracked off-platform, so inventory never quite matches reality.

05

Split shipments unseen

Multi-warehouse and partial dispatches aren't reflected back in Shopify.

06

Batch delays

Orders wait for the next manual upload instead of dropping to the floor on payment.

07

No failure visibility

A sync breaks and nobody knows until a customer complains.

08

Peak-season strain

Volume that's fine in July buckles under a Black Friday spike.

What syncs, and which way

A typical data-flow map. Direction and system of record are confirmed per object in discovery.

How a Shopify 3PL integration works

The exact data objects we sync, how the sync behaves, and how we keep it trustworthy. Every object is scoped to your 3PL or WMS during discovery.

What syncs

  • Orders, line items, quantities and ship method
  • Shipping and billing addresses
  • Gift notes and packing instructions
  • Inventory and stock-on-hand, per location
  • Fulfilments, tracking number and carrier
  • Fulfilment status and shipment events
  • Returns and RMAs
  • Products and SKUs
  • Inbound stock, POs and ASNs

How it works

  • Orders push Shopify to 3PL in real time via webhook
  • Inventory syncs 3PL to Shopify; the WMS is system of record for stock
  • Tracking and status flow 3PL to Shopify, then to the customer
  • One-way or two-way per object, agreed with you
  • Near-real-time by default, scheduled batch where it suits
  • Multi-location and split-shipment aware
  • Nightly reconciliation catches any drift

Reliability

  • Structured logging on every message
  • Retries with backoff on transient failures
  • Idempotency keys so an order never ships twice
  • Dead-letter queue for records that need review
  • Monitoring and alerting on failed jobs
  • Reconciliation reports you can actually read
  • Safe re-processing, nothing is silently lost

How we deliver it

A logistics integration is unforgiving, a wrong address or a double-ship costs real money. So we specify it before we build it.

01

Discovery

We map every order, return and stock movement, and agree the system of record for each object.

02

Data-flow design

We define what moves where, in which direction, and how often.

03

Build

We build against your 3PL's sandbox and a Shopify dev store, with logging in from day one.

04

UAT

You run real orders, returns and edge cases against agreed acceptance criteria.

05

Deploy

Controlled cutover with a reconciliation pass and rollback ready.

06

Monitor & support

Alerting, error handling and change requests as volumes grow and APIs change.

Built to be owned and trusted

Your logistics data is sensitive and the integration is business-critical. We treat both that way.

  • Least-privilege, scoped API access on both sides
  • Signed webhooks and encrypted credentials
  • Separate sandbox and staging environments
  • Handling aligned with the Australian Privacy Principles
  • Source code, documentation and repo access handed over
  • No vendor lock-in, the integration is yours

Shopify 3PL integration FAQs

Both are on the table. Orders usually push in real time via webhook so the warehouse can pick immediately; inventory and reconciliation often run on a schedule. We choose per data object based on your volume and your 3PL's API limits.
If your 3PL has a solid, well-supported Shopify app that does exactly what you need, we'll tell you to use it, it's cheaper and faster. We build custom when no app covers your workflow, when field mapping is complex, or when you're connecting a WMS that only exposes an API.
Per object. Orders typically flow one way, Shopify to 3PL; inventory flows the other way, 3PL to Shopify; returns are often two-way. We agree the system of record for each field so two systems never fight over the same value.
The WMS is the system of record for stock. We sync stock-on-hand back to Shopify on every change and run a scheduled reconciliation to catch drift. For high-risk lines we can tighten the sync frequency.
Failed messages are retried with backoff, logged, and held in a dead-letter queue for review, never silently dropped. Idempotency keys mean a retry can't ship an order twice, and your team is alerted when something needs a human.
Whichever suits you. We can deploy to your cloud account, AWS, Google Cloud or Azure, so you own the infrastructure, or host and manage it for you under a support agreement. We recommend an option based on your volume and data-residency needs.
Yes. We map Shopify locations to your 3PL nodes, handle split and partial shipments, and reflect per-location stock so customers see accurate availability.
Any with a documented API, AU and global. We've connected the usual local players and warehouse systems; if yours exposes an API for orders, inventory and fulfilment, we can integrate it.
